It was the name of an old Washington humor magazine back in the 1920s, a term for an unbroken horse, slang for “night owl,” and a slightly rude way to refer to Pacific Northwest weather. Whatever the origin, the nickname was retired after only a few years, and Washington became the Huskies. In the century since, Sunny Boy has remained a unique and beloved part of Washington history.
