The University of Oklahoma football team opened the 2000 season ranked #19 in the nation, but in what became known in Sooners lore as âRed October,â Coach Bob Stoops led a return to OU glory as they defeated No. 10 Texas, No. 2 Kansas State, and No. 1 Nebraska in consecutive games. With a Big 12 title under their belt and a matchup with Florida State in the Orange Bowl on the horizon, âSooner Magicâ was officially back. A dominant defensive performance over the defending champs in Miami gave Oklahoma a 13-1 victory, a perfect 13-0 record, and their first national championship since 1985.
