“Happy Valley” is the nickname given to the region around Penn State in the Great Depression, as its population was not hit particularly hard financially due to PSU’s presence. Today it is known for the thousands of Nittany Lion fans that celebrate college football Saturdays at Beaver Stadium, the second-largest stadium in the western hemisphere.
