According to Louisiana Tech legend, the Bulldog was chosen as the school's mascot in 1899. Five students adopted a stray bulldog, who lived with them until a fire broke out in their home. Though the bulldog itself did not survive the fire, it barked to wake up and warn the students, saving their lives.
