Hockey in the desert? More likely than you think. The state of Arizona has a rich hockey history, with Arizona State playing a relatively recent, but integral part. The first ASU hockey teams were pickup teams that took the ice in the 1980s; soon after, the Sun Devils were an ACHA Division I program by 1993. After winning two ACHA national championships in 2014 and 2015, the team moved up to NCAA DI hockey a season later.
